Children’s Dance Program

 

Creative Ballet (45 minutes)

This class is an introduction to dance for three and four year olds through a blend of movement, music, and improvisation. Children learn basic ballet positions and terminology as well as working on age appropriate coordination. Strong emphasis at this age is placed upon self control, socialization and following instructions. Class is loosely planned to allow for the natural spontaneity of this age group. (black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, no skirts in class please)

Ballet/Tap and Ballet/Jazz Combo (1 hour)

These classes are designed to give 4-7 year olds an opportunity to explore two dance disciplines in one class. Classes introduce tap steps with a focus on coordination, balance and basic rhythms along with fundamental ballet positions or basic jazz movement.  Emphasis is placed upon developing body awareness and a working dance vocabulary. Class participates in one recital dance either ballet, tap or jazz. (black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes,tan slip on jazz shoes)

Trio I, II (90 minutes) and Trio III (120 minutes)

These classes offer 5-10 year olds instruction in three disciplines during one class; ballet, tap and jazz. Trio adds Jazz to our Ballet/Tap combo curriculum. Classes participate in two recital dances. (black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, black tap shoes, tan slip on jazz shoes)

Ballet

 

Ballet (1 hour)

These classes are designed for 6 year olds and above. Classes explore the fundamentals of ballet concentrating on proper body alignment, use of turn-out, increasing strength and flexibility and using proper dance terminology. Students lean barre work, center floor and traveling exercises. Movement sequences becomes more complex through increased repetition and speed. (black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair in bun, no skirts in class please)

Pointe (1/2 hour)

Pointe work is a very serious step in ballet training and it is therefore of extreme importance that students be technically and physically ready in order to avoid injury. Class introduces students to their new shoes emphasizing correct alignment and foot strengthening exercises at the barre. As students progress, movement will be taken center and across the floor. Students may participate by owner approval only and must be currently enrolled in a ballet class. Please do not purchase shoes on your own!

Jazz

 

Jazz (1 hour)

These classes are designed for 6 year olds and above. Classes focus on isolations, stretching and the development of strong lines. Dance combinations set to a wide array of music allow students to explore their creativity and musicality while increasing flexibility and stamina. Classes incorporate many different jazz dance styles including hip hop, lyrical, theatre and primitive. Tap

 

Tap (1 hour)

These classes are designed for 6 year olds and above. Classes introduce fundamental tap steps using correct terminology. Focus is on balance, coordination, rhythm and choreography. (black leotard, light suntan tights/ or black jazz pants/ or black dance shorts, black laced tap shoes, hair tied back)

Modern

 

Modern (1 hour)

These classes are design for 7 year olds and above. Classes explore the dynamics and fundamental principals of movement. Classes will incorporate concepts of spatial awareness and improvisation while increasing flexibility, coordination, balance and creativity. (black leotard, light suntan tights/ or black jazz pants/ or black dance shorts, bare feet, hair tied back)

Hip Hop

 

Pop Hop (1 hour)

These classes are our pre hip hop classes for 6-12 year olds. Classes pay urgent attention to the appropriateness of music, lyrics, movement and content while exploring cool, new dance moves. The fun begins with a jazz based warm-up to stretch and strengthen the body, followed by relaxed and fun choreography. (black dance sneakers, hair tied back)

Hip Hop (1 hour)

These classes are designed for teens, 12 years old and above. Classes present the latest, funky tunes and high energy movements influenced by some of today’s hottest choreographers, all presented in an age appropriate manner. (black dance sneakers, hair tied back)

Irish

 

Irish (1 hour)

These classes are designed for 6 year olds and above. Classes focus on classical Irish Dance form and technique. Lower levels begin with soft shoe learning the jig and reel. Higher levels include more advanced soft shoe reels and jigs along with introducing slip-jig and entry level hard shoe technique. (Irish I & II need black leotard, pink tights, black ballet shoes – Irish III needs tap shoes and advanced teen Irish needs jig shoes)

Lyrical

 

Lyrical (1 hour)

These classes are designed for 9 year olds and above with some experience in ballet.  Classes fuse ballet, jazz and modern dance technique allowing dancers to creatively interpret their music through fluid movement and expressive emotion. Classes are designed to enhance student’s technique in turns, jumps and leaps while focusing on the strength needed to power such movement. (black leotard, light suntan tights/ or black jazz pants/ or black dance shorts, bare feet, hair tied back)

Contemporary

 

Contemporary Jazz (1 hour)

This class offers 11 year olds and above an introduction to a versatile and expansive dance style. Class focuses on integrating the body’s natural lines and movement to create an energetic yet fluid dance expression emphasizing musicality and individuality. Dancers aim for an ease of movement that creates a visual harmony with their music. (bare feet, hair tied back)

Leaps and Turns

 

Leaps and Turns (1 hour)

This class is designed for the advanced dancer 13 years old and above and is by approval only. The class focuses on developing balance, strength, elevation and body alignment through concentration on the technical aspects of weight and directional changes in leaping, jumping and turning. Dancers will learn pirouettes, fouette turns, turning C-jumps, switch centers, turning center leaps, leg turns, calypso jumps, a la seconde turns, ring jumps and more.

Musical Theatre

 

Musical Theatre (1 hour)

These classes will examine the triple threat needed for the Broadway stage; dance, voice and acting. Group emphasis will be on dance choreography and breathing techniques needed to make singing easier while dancing. Students will be encouraged to participate in the creative process of character development while singing and performing clean, crisp dance movements. This is not a class to teach how to sing but more of a class to focus on the blending of voices in the collective group. (Jazz, tap, pedini and/or character shoes may be needed. Speak with instructor before purchasing)

Dance Team

 

Dance Team (1 hour)

This class is designed to help prepare our dancers for middle and high school dance teams. Class focus will be on basic requirements and preferred movements to pass a dance team audition. This class will be non-competitive, however will participate in the recital. (black dance sneakers, hair tied back)

Tumbling

 

Tumbling Tots (1 hour)

This class is designed for 5 year olds and older with no tumbling experience. The class will focus on flexibility, strength and balance while teaching the fundamentals of tumbling; forward and backward rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, handstands and backbends. (black leotard, light suntan conversion tights, bare feet, hair tied back)

Tumbling (1 hour)

This class is designed for 9 year olds and older with little to no tumbling experience. This class will focus and build upon tumbling basics, flexibility, strength and balance while progressing toward more intermediate tumbling skills such as backbend kick-overs, front limbers, back and front walkovers and standing forward and back handsprings – all depending on the flow of the class. (black leotard, light suntan conversion tights, bare feet, hair tied back)

Baby and Me Dance (1-3 year)

Join this fun and interactive class with your baby. This is a loosely planned curriculum allowing you to bond with your baby through movement and communication. Through this experience your child will develop musicality, spatial awareness and coordination in a fun and nurturing atmosphere.
